Murray Presbyterian Messenger

September 2008

Dear Church Family,

This summer has gone by very fast!  It is hard to believe that school has already started and that we’re getting back into our routines.  It has been a great summer here at the church.  We’ve barbequed, done a mission project, hosted the Black Brothers singing group, and held a school sports party with UNO wrestling coach Mike Denney.  As we move into late summer we still have many exciting things going on.

On August 31 our church will be having a very special speaker—Morris Jackson—preaching at our 10:00 a.m. worship service.  Morris is a former professional boxer, a Nebraska boxing legend, and known widely for his upset knock out (KO) of British Heavy Champion Danny McAlinden in 1973.   Be sure to invite friends to church to hear Morris preach and share his stories from inside the ring.

Our church’s Sunday School programs will be kicked off on “Rally Day” September 7.  We’re going to have a special puppet show and treats so make sure your kids are here for the fun and festivities.  This is going to be a great Sunday and I’m excited about Sunday School this year and what God is doing in the lives of our young people.  Also, we have Sunday School programs for adults as well.  If you are an adult and want to get involved in a group where you can share, learn, and grow in your faith then make sure you sign up in our adult Sunday School class.

On September 20 the deacons will be having their annual “Rummage Sale.”  Please attend this fun event with good food!  In addition, on September 21 our church will be worshipping on the beach at Beaver Lake.  This will be a special worship service with a picnic immediately following the service.

I am so thankful to God for each one of you and for the Holy Spirit’s work in our midst.  As we move from summer to fall may we all continue to let Christ rule in our hearts and may our minds be focused on Him.  Let us pray for one another and build each other up.  God has been working in powerful ways this summer and I am looking forward to what the future holds for the body of Christ here in the Murray and Beaver Lake area.  May we continue to be thankful as we respond in faith to what Christ has done for us.

                                                                               Blessings,

                                                                                                   Jeff

UNO Wrestling Coach Speaks

On August 17, UNO wrestling Coach Mike Denney gave a presentation to our Conestoga students about how to be a winning athlete both on the field and off.  Coach Denney also talked about his Christian faith, teamwork, how players should relate to coaches, and how to lay the foundation for successful sports programs.  Around one hundred people attended this event that was sponsored by our church.  Pizza was served and thankfully we had just enough to serve everyone!
