The
Lighting of the Fourth Advent Candle
Advent Reader: God’s promise to send a Savior took a long
time. As the candle of light flames, we
remember that Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world” (John 8:12). On this fourth Sunday of Advent we light the
candle of hope. God’s gift of hope does
not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through
the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
The candle of hope reminds us that God gave us a gift of hope – life
forever with Him through Jesus Christ.
Congregation: And
when I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to
myself, that where I am, you may be also (John 14.3).
Advent Reader: The
Bible tells us that if we have opened our heart’s door to Jesus, we have been
adopted into the family of God. When
Jesus went back to heaven, He said that He would prepare a place for us, and
some day he would come for us so we could live with Him. Knowing that Jesus has made a special place
for us in heaven gives us hope as we follow Him as Savior and Lord.
Prayer (Unison): Our Father in heaven, we
worship the baby Jesus, born in a stable, and we rejoice that He loved us and
became our Savior and Lord. Now we are
hoping for what we have never seen – life forever with Jesus, our King. Amen

Our heartfelt thanks to those of you who
purchased poinsettias “in honor of” or “in memory of” your loved ones. They add so much beauty to the sanctuary and
the services during this Holiday season.
They also remind us of those who have added and are adding beauty to our
lives by their presence. Thank you so
much!
