Cass County’s “Relay for Life” is scheduled for 7pm on June 27th at the Plattsmouth High School track.  If you are interested in joining the Murray Presbyterian Church relay team, please sign-up on the poster at the back of the church. Our team is walking in remembrance of Kris Johnson.  Any questions please see Krista, Melanie, or Sherrill.

Several more fundraisers have been organized to raise money for our church “Relay for Life” team.    The next fundraiser will be a garage sale at the Honaker’s home (10186 Sydney Lane) during the Beaver Lake annual garage sales on Saturday, June 6th.  The last fundraiser organized at this time involves “pink flamingo” yard decorations.  If you are the “chosen one,” and you find pink flamingos decorating your yard, you have three choices.  1. Leave them there for all to see, 2. Pay $10 to have them removed, or 3. Pay $15 to have them removed and placed in a friend’s yard.

American Cancer Society Awareness for May

Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers and accounts for about half of all cases in the US. The two main types are malignant melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancers. Basal cell and squamous cell cancers account for most of the latter group. Although less common, melanoma skin cancers are far more dangerous, accounting for four percent of skin cancer cases but 79 percent of skin cancer deaths.

You may see yourself in the mirror every day but you should look closer at least once a month to improve your chances of finding any skin cancers that might develop, says Martin Weinstock, MD, PhD, chairman of the American Cancer Society's (ACS) Skin Cancer Advisory Committee and a professor at Brown University.

The ABCD rule is a helpful guide to signs of melanoma. Notify your doctor about any of these signs:

§  A is for asymmetry: Half of a mole or birthmark does not match the other half.

§  B is for border: Edges are irregular, ragged, notched or blurred.

§  C is for color: The color isn't the same all over but may have differing shades of brown or black, sometimes with patches of red, white or blue.

§  D is for diameter: The area is larger than six millimeters (about the size of a pencil eraser) or is growing larger.

·         Melanoma Monday (May 4)

·         National Women's Health Week (May 10-16)
